The essentials in 30 seconds
Which period to choose by family profile
| Family profile | Ideal period | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Babies 0-2 years | May-June, September | Manageable heat, fewer tourists, quieter beaches |
| Children 3-10 years | July (first fortnight), August | Animation, sunshine, warm bathing, beach friends |
| Teenagers 11-17 years | August, October half-term | Open nightlife, Croisette outings, events |
| Multi-generational family | June, September | Comfortable temperatures for grandparents, calm, accessible restaurants |
| February school holidays | Avoid | Wind, possible rain, few children's activities open |
Choosing the villa by children's age
Babies and toddlers (0-3 years)
Absolute priority: fully secured pool (alarm + fence or rigid cover), enclosed terrace, baby room with adjustable air conditioning, travel cot + high chair provided. Avoid villas with outdoor staircases without railings, sloping grounds, infinity pools that cannot be protected.
Children 4-10 years
Looking for: pool, play garden, space to run around. Distance to the beach is important (on foot ideal, otherwise 5-10 min by car max). Check for outdoor games (trampoline, swing, ping-pong table). Air conditioning essential in the children's bedrooms in July-August.
Teenagers 11-17 years
Private space (separate bedrooms for children/parents), powerful Wi-Fi, large-screen TV lounge, a dedicated fridge can be appreciated. Distance from central Cannes: their independence is real (cinema outings, restaurants, beach with friends). Favour Le Cannet, Cannes Centre or Super Cannes rather than Mougins/Théoule which are too isolated.

Pool safety: the golden rule
Any rented villa with a pool in France must comply with Law 2003-9 (alarm, fence, shelter or rigid cover). Verify compliance before signing. For children under 6, also require:
- Progressive depth with an entry step (no straight 'wall')
- Adult swim rings stocked at the villa
- Local emergency number displayed in the kitchen
- Explicit mandatory adult supervision (never 'they can swim')
On-site transport: car or no car?
| Stay | Car | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Villa central Cannes (Croisette/Centre) | Often unnecessary | Walking, taxis, bus 200 |
| Villa Super Cannes / La Californie | Recommended | On-demand concierge driver |
| Villa Mougins / Le Cannet | Essential | None, public transport limited |
| Villa Théoule / Mandelieu | Essential | SNCF train very limited |
