Frequently asked questions

How much does a day yacht charter in Cannes cost?

Very wide range by size: 450-850 EUR for an 8m open, 1,200-2,500 EUR for a 12-14m day-cruiser, 3,500-6,500 EUR for a 15-18m yacht, 6,500-13,000 EUR for 19-25m, 13,000-22,000 EUR for 26-32m, 22,000+ EUR for a mega-yacht.

Is fuel included in the price?

For small yachts (< 15m): often extra, allow +50-300 EUR. For yachts 15-25m and above: generally included in the day rate. For long itineraries (Saint-Tropez): check with the broker, fuel surcharge possible 200-1,500 EUR.

Do I need a boat licence to charter?

No if you charter with crew (which is the standard for a Cannes day). The professional captain pilots, you are a passenger. For 'bareboat' rental of a 8-12m yacht: coastal or offshore licence required depending on zone.

Can we sail in bad weather?

If wind > 25 knots or swell > 1.5 m, sailing is not advised or is cancelled by the captain (final call rests with the captain). In case of weather cancellation: full refund or D+1/D+2 reschedule. Weather improves quickly on the Cote d'Azur, few cancellations June-September.

What is the ideal length of a day yacht charter?

Standard format: 8am-6pm (10h). Too short: 5-6h doesn't really let you enjoy it (1h sailing out, 1h back, 3-4h on site). Too long: 12h+ = passengers tired in the evening. 10h format is optimal.

Is there wifi on board the yacht?

On yachts > 15m: 4G/5G wifi generally available (speed varies by area). On small yachts: no. In the Lerins Islands area: decent 4G coverage. Off the Esterel coast: variable coverage.

How is the broker / intermediary paid?

Charter commission of 8-15% on the day rate, paid either by the owner or rebilled to the client. Insist on transparency: ask whether the commission is built into the displayed price or is extra.

Should I tip the crew?

Yes, it's standard practice. For small yachts (1-2 crew): 5-10% of the rental fee. For mid-size yachts (3-5 crew): 8-12%. For large yachts (5+ crew): 10-15%. To be handed over in cash at the end of the day, shared among the team.
